Casting of ductile iron

We produce ductile iron at the Rapid Virovitica and Bjelovar Foundry facilities, where melting takes place in medium-frequency electric induction furnaces with a melting capacity of up to 4 t/h. Ductile iron is characterized by superior ductility and toughness compared to gray iron, making it suitable for more demanding structural components.

Production is carried out according to EN-GJS / DIN standards, in grades ranging from EN-GJS-400 to EN-GJS-700, with tensile strength of 400 to 850 N/mm², yield strength of 250 to 600 N/mm², elongation of 3 to 27%, and a microstructure ranging from ferritic to pearlitic, depending on the material grade.

As with grey iron, every batch undergoes:

  •  chemical composition and microstructure analysis
  •  mechanical property testing (hardness, tensile strength, yield strength)
  •  visual inspection and shot blasting of castings
  •  dimensional inspection against customer drawings with an accuracy of up to ±0.005 mm

The total production capacity of all RS Metal facilities is approximately 12,000 tons of castings per year, with 85% of production exported to markets in the European Union and other countries. The quality system complies with ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2004, and OHSAS 18001:2008 standards.
